Sabedoria Alternativa (Alternative Wisdom) was born from books and moved to events. In 2022 a space to socialize, learn, taste, garden and grow to a new dimension of well-being was created: Sofia In Monsaraz (translated from Greek: Wisdom In Monsaraz).
More than just reading a book, collective learning experiences in a special space, built for its clients to gain tranquility, self-confidence and personal satisfaction, is the mission of this new space.

The activity in the space “Sofia In Monsaraz” will flow guided by principles that base its philosophy in the sense of personal and community wisdom.
We want to be a space that inspires you to be more creative and find your way, without pressure to be someone you don't want to be. Thinking outside the box will be an adventure.
It is not enough to say that we will protect it, we have to respect it. Here you can reconnect with nature while having fun and learning to relate to biodiversity, plants and animals.
Excuses are a waste of time and so we must have the compromise to always do better, respecting and valuing work. We are all responsible for our work and contribution. Here, we love to work.
Knowing, discovering, learning, reading, dealing with different personalities (no prejudices) from different cultures and realising that there are many ways to find solutions to the same problems is transformative. Shall we do it?
Anything is possible, and perseverance and resilience are qualities we like to develop.
When you know yourself and what you want, you no longer want to compare yourself with others or live through them. Then you will have more freedom to deal empathetically with those around you. In this space we will all try to be equal and inclusive.

Sofia in Greek means Wisdom. That’s why we chose this name, which translates into Wisdom In Monsaraz.
Owning a piece of land, in the interior of Portugal and next to a 4 thousand year old menhir, can be a challenge for many and for Sofia it was: How to make this space work, share it with those who wanted to get out of the city and foster learning?
Behind this project is a book publisher that distributes knowledge and contributes to personal development and this is the principle that will dominate the initiatives we will develop.
In the future we aim to develop a more active social role among the local community, with various initiatives such as the creation of a space to learn English, gardening, personal development classes, entrepreneurship, valuing the territory, among others.
According to the author Ben Horowitz “knowing your story and telling the world why your business exists is one of the most important challenges for an entrepreneur”. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city and learning, in an exclusive location, may have been the motivation behind this business. Portugal is a small country but its interior is abandoned and neglected. Here, right next to the Spanish border, the traditions of the Alentejo are alive and we want to nurture them. More than just a tourist spot, we want to be a place of personal development, a kind of innovative school, where teaching and learning will be part of the experience of those who visit us.
