This is a magical place with a wonderful host and hostess. The location has to be seen to be believed. A rural idyll with some great sights and restaurants nearby. The food was amazing - local produce, freshly cooked and abundant. The spirit and nurturing environment is the best location for a retreat be it artistic, creative or corporate team building and coaching. Perfect in every way. Thanks too to our great art teacherLaura McKendry who supported our growth with such talent, care and fun.

Sofia In Monsaraz is more than a retreat center, it is a wonderful and wholesome life experience. No detail is too small for Sofia. She is kind and generous and wants to make sure that you feel nurtured and at home. Beautiful nature, fresh vegetables, delicious local cuisine, and excellent facilities for conducting a variety of retreats. I just returned from the best-ever Art In Nature retreat, led by fabulous Laura McKendry at Sofia in Monsaraz, and highly recommend this place to anyone that wants to have an outstanding retreat experience in nature.

A most inspirational weekend retreat by brilliant art teacher Laura Mckendry and hosted by top notch host Sofia In Monsaraz. Twelve women from 10 different countries, from totally different backgrounds, spanning more than 5 decades between the youngest and the oldest. We had never met before, but we all shared a common passion: our love for art and nature. Disconnected from the rest of the world, we deeply connected with each other and with ourselves, experiencing a weekend of joy, creativity, delight, freedom, inspiration, nurturing, laughter, exploration, camaraderie, love…. and play!! We allowed ourselves to unleash the wild little girl inside our hearts and, somehow, in a magical way, we fell in love with each other and with the mosaic we formed together as a group. It showed me the amazing —and much needed— power of women to transform the world. Muito obrigada, amigas queridas, for this transformational experience.

There are rare moments in life when some of the simple joys - nature, food, art and the kindness of strangers - align in abundance to create something well beyond their separate parts. This past weekend was one of those rarities and a brief caption here cannot convey the lasting impression made by this trip. Amongst the Alentejo in Portugal, I was invited by Sofia In Monsaraz to host a long weekend workshop for aspiring creatives who travelled individually from countries as far apart as South Africa, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, France, Spain and Norway to draw and paint amongst these rugged rural surroundings. Wild swimming, wine tasting, an abundance of food made from locally-grown produce, fed into three days of filling sketchbooks with an absolute wealth of inspiration. I have returned to a damp, grey London with a full heart, moved by the overwhelming warmth and wisdom of a very unique group of once-strangers.

Thank you sooooooo much for creating this experience for us. It was better than I ever imagine.

Sofia in Monsaraz is a really special place. The local surroundings are just so beautiful, especially the ancient olive trees that took our breath away. Sofia's property and garden were absolutely perfect, so tranquil and peaceful but also with a buzz of happy and excited energy from the participants of the retreat I attended. Sofia's attention to detail was superb, she had planned everything so beautifully and yet also always appeared very calm and at ease despite all the work that must have been going on in the background! The food was wonderful: Plentiful, fresh, varied and delicious. There was always wine and coffee available too! Our local accommodation, arranged by Sofia as part of the retreat experience was also completely perfect with really friendly and helpful staff. It's hard to overstate how much we all enjoyed our long weekend. It really was so uplifting and restorative for all of us, young and old. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Sofia in Monsaraz to anyone.

Located next to a 4,000-year-old menhir in the Monsaraz region, this project is surrounded by nature (on a 1.3-hectare site) and has all the audiovisual equipment you need to hold training activities, board meetings, motivational meetings, team events, lunches for colleagues, seminars, conventions, round tables and workshops.

In addition to the 80 square metre lounge, equipped to hold presentations, we have a kitchen, a mini bar, an outdoor dining area with a wood-fired oven, several areas to gather outside and a space to practice yoga or other physical activities, under cork oaks and overlooking Monsaraz.
