This retreat, 5 days with Maru Godàs, promises to be an immersive experience in the heart of nature.
Participants embark on a journey that combines the serenity of nature with the creativity of artistic expression.
Surrounded by the picturesque landscapes, the retreat offers a unique opportunity for individuals to delve into the art of sketching.
Monsaraz, with its timeless beauty and artistic allure, becomes the perfect backdrop for this transformative retreat, leaving attendees with a profound sense of accomplishment and a renewed passion for both art and nature.
Each day begins with meditative walking, allowing attendees to connect with the natural world, finding inspiration in every rustle of leaves and chirping of birds.
One of the highlights of the retreat is a visit to a museum dedicated to tiles, where attendees can explore the rich tapestry of art and design throughout history.
This cultural excursion serves as a wellspring of ideas for the creative minds, enriching their understanding of various art forms. Following the museum visit, participants engage in an open sketchwalk, allowing them to capture the essence of the sorrounding landscapes.
In this artistic event, the retreat not only refines the participants’ creative skills but also provides a sanctuary for self-discovery and rejuvenation.
Trained as a graphic designer at the IDEP Design School and the “Escola Superior de Disseny Llotja de Barcelona”.
She founded her own graphic design studio in Barcelona, providing graphic design services to publishers and agencies in Spain: RBA, Planeta, National Geographic, Salvat, etc.
Painting was her true passion and she finally decided to dedicate herself to it full time. When she met Urban Sketchers, new paths and languages opened up, as well as the opportunity to travel and do workshops and lectures all over the world. She loves all techniques: China ink, oil, watercolour and coloured pencil, although she is known for her drawings and workshops with gouache and acrylic paint. She was director of the illustration festival “Compostela Ilustrada” (Spain) (2019-2022).

• It is advisable to book the plane after the final confirmation that the retreat will happen until we have 10 participants.
• In this event we will accept until 15 people. The event does not include spouses, partners or friends if they are not taking the workshop.
• If we cannot gather the minimum participants the event will be cancel and the payments refund to the participants, less 50€ for cancelation fee.
Wednesday, 15 May
The bus will pick the participants at Lisbon airport around 16 pm. We will arrive at the Hotel Vila Planície, in Monsaraz, 2 hours later.
The welcome dinner will be serve in the castle, in a local restaurant.
Thursday, 16th May
After breakfast at the hotel you walk 15 minutes to “Sofia In Monsaraz” with our teacher. We will start the day with “Sketching nature: a meditative walking”
After the First Painting Session we have lunch in the garden, served with local produce vegetables.
Maru will organize a Personal one-to-one mentoring session for each student.
In the afternoon will have a Second Painting Session.
Friday, 17 May
After breakfast and our inspirational and meditative walk we will start our Third Painting Session.
Around one o’clock we will have lunch in the garden.
In the afternoon will have a special experience with acrylic painting. We will try to create a small canvas in the middle on the nature.
After the Fourth Painting Session we will relax with a dancing class or outdoor movies.
Saturday, 18th May
We will start the day travelling to Estremoz village to visit the Tile Museum and then we the local market.
Before the pic-nic we will do a skewtchwalk near de market.
At 14 pm we will return to SIM to do two exercices: a pattern and stamping inspiration session and a Pop up exhibition. To end our days together, while we observe the work done, and will taste Alentejo´s wine with local tapas.
The dinner will be served at a local restaurant, to remember the great moments we´ve spent together.
Sunday, 19th May
After breakfast at 9 am you return to Lisbon airport, and estimated arrival time is 12.30h.
On the way, the bus stop in a local pottery shop, for 45 minutes.
Everything is organised to detail so that nothing will prevent you from enjoying all the peace and quiet of the Alentejo.
All the rooms have air conditioning, full and private bathroom, shared or private balcony and outdoor access.
This accommodation is a 15-minute walk from the workshop venue (SIM) and passes by the Bulhoa menhir (National Monument) and the Alentejo plain, ideal for reflection before starting work.

Internacional roundtrip airfare, alcoholic drinks, boat trip, activities not included in the itinery, hotel incidentals including room service, materials list, expenses during free time, laundry service and hotel bar, food and beverages not included in the itinerary. COVID-19 test, if applicable.
We require all participantes to have a personal travel insurance that at minimum covers medical emergencies and cancellations. We do not provide travel insurance for the retreat and each participant is required to have their own individual travel insurance. The place, where the retreat happens, has an Insurance that covers accidents. Will not be responsible for refunding any lost trip funds if you have to miss your scheduled trip.
We cannot guarantee to accommodate vegan, gluten free or dairy/egg free, and some allergies.We are unable to accommodate participants with severe food allergies or food intolerances.
Please contact us in advance of registering if you have any dietary questions.
It will start when arriving at the hotel, Wednesday and finish when you leave the hotel, by Sunday. We are not responsible for any non-retreat activity that a participant decides to purchase outside of the retreat and such activity will not form part of the participant’s contract with us. The bus transport is insurance secure.
This retreat includes some walking, where the ground may be uneven and you may be on your feet for several of hours at a time and should be comfortable walking 1km.
The materials list will be given with the booking form. You can bring your own. If you want us to provide them we have to add 100€ to the final fee.
You may cancel before the end of February 2024 and receive a full refund minus 50€ fee.
Your payments will be split in two, with an initial deposit to secure your place on the retreat.
After you have completed your registration you will be sent an Invoice to complete your deposit payment. Payment can be made by Banktransfer or PayPal in euros. Additional costs may apply where special accommodations are made available to participants.
